About Paperclipd

It also seems perfectly possible to have a superintelligence whose sole goal is something completely arbitrary, such as to manufacture as many paperclips as possible, and who would resist with all its might any attempt to alter this goal. – Nick Bostrom, Oxford University1

Get smarter on AI. Don’t get turned into a paperclip.

Most AI newsletters – of which there are many very good ones – focus on the latest investments and acquisitions, new research papers, what big tech is doing with AI, or other breaking news. It’s nice to know about all of this stuff, but it can contribute to the feeling that AI is moving fast and leaving you in the dust like a dumb spectator at a race you don’t understand and can’t possibly participate in.

Paperclipd is different.

My goal is to benefit from AI, rather than getting paperclipped by AI.

This newsletter is about learning in public. I am not an expert. Think of me as a fellow student sharing his notes.

Practical knowledge for smart, non-technical people

What you’ll get: tools, how-to guides, prompts, weird and creative use cases, profiles of AI-based microbusinesses, etc.

Ever wondered how to make an AI Instagram influencer using Stable Diffusion on your own computer? Me too! I’ll figure it out and publish the step-by-step.

How about using a no-code builder with ChatGPT API integration to build some kind of AI-powered app so you can finally quite that job that makes you dead inside? Yes, that’s exactly what we’re about here.

Maybe a few headlines, too, and perhaps the occasional essay. But the emphasis will be on the actual nuts and bolts of how people are profiting from the AI tsunami.
